"Don't Mess With Bill" takes trumpet playing to a whole new level. His style sings in every part of the instrument, and fits in equally cleanly with smooth lines and percussive pops.
His vocal ability is another strength, covering multiple ranges and styles that range from clean classical to raspy R&B to sweet ballad falsetto. This gives him the unique ability to cover a wide variety of genres and styles. Bill can sing in virtually any setting, bass through tenor, and is happy to do so! Other instruments include flute, saxophone, guitar, keys, bass, and more.
He has played or served as musical director in several stage productions, including The Wizard of Oz, Anything Goes, Camelot, The Music Man, Kiss Me Kate, Into the Woods, Hello, Dolly!, West Side Story, Annie, Bye Bye Birdie, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Leader of the Pack, and Shrek. On stage, he performed the role of Jemmy in the American Premiere performance of The Beggar's Opera by Bonynge and Gamley.
Bill's funk and soul styles were developed playing with such bands as Midnight Hour, Jazz Williams' Unique Review Band, JellyRoll, and X-Cluzive and the Soul Revival. Other local influences include The ChatterBand, The Rockets, The Heartbeats, Don't Call Me Francis, and Johnny O's Classic Dogs of Love, all of which have shared stage time to showcase Bill's talents.
More recently, Bill has performed with a number of high-profile artists, including Major Harris, Billy Paul, The Original Blue Notes, Blue Magic, and The Trammps. He still performs regularly on trumpet and vocals with Grammy Award winners MFSB.
Bill's symphonic and ensemble credits include a wide variety of experiences, ranging from church services with various choirs and brass groups to feature performances with Grammy Award winner Peter Nero and the Philly Pops.
Composing, arranging, and engraving credits include several custom arrangements for local high school marching bands, arrangements for local performing groups, and engraving projects for several high-profile performing acts including The Volcanoes and The Trammps featuring Earl Young. Bill Uses FinaleĀ® music publishing software to create the best final product possible.
Bill also spent six years as a stagehand and guitar technician for Beatlemania Now, and continued in the same capacity with Imagine Lennon Live prior to joining the band in 2023.
Bill plays a 1999 Getzen G20S Renaissance Trumpet with a Jeff Parke custom three-piece mouthpiece, a 1986 Yamaha 2310 Fluegelhorn, a 2003 Hermet Schartel HS500 violin, a Gemeinhardt student flute, a Peavey Fury bass, and a Squier Stratocaster guitar with a Vox StompLab effects pedal. He uses Hetman's #2 synthetic piston oil for the horns, and D'Addario violin and guitar strings. He still swears by an old Ensoniq TS-10 for keyboard work. His most recent additions include a Sennheiser IEM rig with a set of KZ wireless in-ear monitors, a Ron Bass wireless microphone, and a Ron Bass tenor saxophone (currently using Rico #2 reeds).
Since 2004, the Inner City Horns have been dazzling audiences with their amazing musicianship. From creating great sounds on the spot to more involved creative endeavors, Bill and George have "nailed it" every time!
A project in the works to find the right musicians and venues to present Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey with a hard-hitting funk/soul project that can also handle some jazz, rock, country, and other popular styles.
